I’m sure any social media user would have seen the trending clips of fervent Coldplay fans eagerly boasting their concert experience— from the iconic bracelet transitions that have proliferated my FYP since the start of Coldplays ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour, to the many different categories of the Coldplay concert showing off every angle of the stadium, I've seen it all. I came in expecting the magic of the stadium brightened by dazzling lights, taken over by giant floating balloons, streamers and confetti raining down, enhancing the already captivating atmosphere.

As someone who bought the general standing pen tickets in hopes of both saving money for future concerts (Taylor Swift), as well as seizing the opportunity to get as close as possible to seeing the renowned band live, my friend and I decided to reach the stadium relatively early at 5 pm to get to the front of the standing pen, though the concert only started at 8.30 pm. While the wait was definitely tedious, it was worth every minute and more as we got to experience Coldplay up close—so close in fact that we could see the sweat dripping off Chris Martin as he sang and danced on the stage.. but I digress.

The opening song, “Higher Power”, was charged with vibrant beats and uplifting lyrics, which was a great way to get the audience's blood pumping in excitement. Chris Martin then went on to read the iconic fan signs that ardent fans had prepared, even granting the wish of a fan who requested the song “Magic” to be sung in support of the community which suffered from autoimmune disease. It was certainly a touching sight to behold as he invited her on stage and sang the emotional ballad.

Coldplay then went on to cover their most iconic songs, ranging from the timeless “Viva La Vida” and “Paradise” to “Adventure of a Lifetime” — these energising songs with lively melodies succeeded in creating an exhilarating atmosphere. My most anticipated song was definitely “Something Just Like This”, and the experience of hearing this song live was enhanced by the special effects employed, such as the timed streams of fire erupting from the stage every time the chorus was sung. The fire on stage even managed to send a wave of heat through the standing pen, serving to enhance our experience.

Next, when Chris Martin covered “People Of The Pride”, an inherently empowering song which captivates the audience with its powerful lyrics and pulsating drumbeats and guitar chords to match, he traversed the stage with a pride flag in hand. His spontaneous and passionate movements electrified the stage, engaging the audience with his spirited presence, creating an even more immersive experience for the audience that cheered louder each time he passed their section.

The confetti that rained down upon the audience definitely helped invigorate us, as star-shaped confetti was aptly employed when “A Sky Full of Stars was played, enhancing the vibe. Various different coloured confetti and streamers also added an element of excitement, elevating the energy in the stadium and making us all part of a shared experience.

When the more emotional ballads such as “The Scientist” and “Sparks” were played, a shift in the audience’s mood was palpable as we sang along to the heartfelt songs, infused with raw emotion. When one of the last few songs, “Fix You”, was played, teary eyes were spotted all throughout the audience, as we swayed along to the gentle yet raw vocals of the band.

Overall, I’d say my concert experience with Coldplay was a definite 10/10. Despite the wait and stressful experience of obtaining tickets, it was well worth it. I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to witness this renowned band in action and I can definitely see why Coldplay has managed to amass such a huge fanbase!
