Introduction
August marked the end of the Inter House Games season in EJC, and it closed off with a bang, with each house putting up a brilliant cheer and dance performance. To commemorate that, ¿?sickbeats?¿ presents to you a playlist containing 2 songs from every house’s cheer and dance track!
Akila
Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis speaks to the only house in Eunoia with the ability to fly. The fast pace of the song perfectly encapsulates Akila’s wild, soaring spirit, and Akila truly did deliver a brilliant opening performance, using a song that most certainly managed to hype up the students. No ceiling can hold Akila, the house of the mighty eagle.
Zara Larsson's invigorating anthem Ain't My Fault is a perfect musical embodiment of Akila's soaring ethos, which exudes unapologetic confidence and determination. With its pulsating beats and empowering lyrics, the song resonates with Akila’s belief in transcending limitations and embracing collective strengths.
Eder
I Am The Best by 2NE1 truly represents the Eder house this year as they followed through with this song, achieving first place overall in this year’s IHG! The song encapsulates Eder’s values of power and courageous spirit with its confident sound. According to Eder’s C&D team, they chose this song as it is empowering and helped to instil confidence in their dancers, showcasing to the rest of EJ what Eder is capable of.
LE SSERAFIM’s Unforgiven portrays the LE SSERAFIM members forging a new path while embracing their inner-villain, truly encompassing the value of tenacity that Eder has. The song is a perfect representation of their determination to win C&D, even spending their weekends practising. Some insight into the thoughts of Eder’s C&D team: “Unforgiven is a testament to individuality and staying true to ourselves - we chose Unforgiven because we thought it was indicative of Eder; unique and fearless”
Isami
Queencard by (G)-IDLE is a mesmerising track that showcases the group's unique blend of fierce energy and seductive charm. What stands out about Queencard is its message conveyed about female empowerment. HUMBLE. by Kendrick Lamar definitely showcases Ora’s values, such as those of determination and perseverance. This song serves as a reminder to the other houses that they truly aren’t one to be messed with. It is a song that everyone can jam to and Eunoians definitely enjoyed watching Ora’s Cheer & Dance team perform to the short segment of this song.
Born This Way by Lady Gaga is a strong upbeat anthem that puts forward a confident fight, telling everybody that “This is who I am”. Just like how Ora aims to lead the charge and conquer any obstacles and challenges to reach greater heights, this mood boosting, self-assertive track proves the house’s certainty, tenacity, and spirit, to ultimately emerge as Eunoia’s Cheer & Dance champions of 2023.
Uzuri
A fitting song after the release of the box office hit Barbie, Uzuri rode with the trends as they danced to Barbie Girl by Aqua and Tiësto for their IHG Cheer & Dance. It is a playful and energetic song that everyone can sing along to, keeping the hype up right to the very end of the Cheer & Dance segment. Their performance brought the school together with its familiarity, encapsulating the Uzuri team spirit!
Applause by Lady Gaga is an upbeat track that explores the themes of self expression. This song features a catchy chorus to match the energy of both the dancers and audience. It definitely gets the audience grooving along to the music with vibrant vocals and beats! The title Applause is a good testament to the audiences’ reactions, it is no wonder Uzuri managed to evolve as top 3 for the Cheer & Dance competition.
