As we return to EJ for another year, prepare yourself for our first test of house spirit, Spartan! Some of us may not be as physically adept as the next guy, but that’s fine. Let’s still all strive to do our best — make it an event that you will remember for centuries!

Survivor - Destiny’s Child

Just like how the lyrics of this song screams resilience and spurs on everyone to be strong and survive any challenge coming their way, we hope that this song will encourage YOU to be a survivor in Spartan, and remember that while it may be tough and tiring, you can definitely pull through and survive! 

Champion - Fall Out Boy

Another Fall Out Boy song makes it onto this playlist! Well, the band’s genre of music is uniquely suited to the vibes of Spartan. In “Champion”, a very applicable line is “If I can live through this / I can do anything”. Yes, some of us may be chanting this to ourselves as we push through the Spartan challenges set out for us. Aside from its appropriate lyrics, the song also has those jarring and yet propelling beats that will make you want to push yourself and strive forward. Just remember — it’s all about perseverance! 

Take It To The Top - Becky G & Ayra Starr

This catchy song, “Take It To The Top”, was featured in the award-winning animation film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The upbeat hip-hop track plays in the background as Miles rushes from his crime-fighting gig as Spider-Man to a parent-teacher meeting as his civilian persona, Miles Morales. In fact, the entire Spider-Man soundtrack deserves a spot on this list. After all, what is more fitting to serve as a backdrop for our cutthroat sports event of the year, than a superhero’s soundtrack? When crawling through the obstacle courses, imagine yourself as a superhero patrolling their city, as the lyrics “Don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop, stop” repeat throughout the song to spur you on.

Bodak Yellow - Cardi B

In a playlist screaming “beast mode”, we definitely cannot miss out on rap! As Cardi B’s breakthrough song, “Bodak Yellow” is a rap hit exuding confidence, strength and wealth. From flaunting her expensive goods to highlighting her successful career, Cardi B seems like she has it all. The beat is so addictive that it almost pushes you to get up and work out—which exactly fits the spirit of Spartan! With this song blasting in your ears, you’ll feel like a million bucks wherever you go, giving you motivation to win. 

Speed Drive - Charli XCX

Let’s “put it into speed drive” during Spartan with this upbeat and empowering song from one of the best movies of 2023! “Speed Drive” is a lively and fast-paced song whose vibes encourage you to exercise with friends and have fun while doing so, exactly what Spartan is all about: challenging your physical capabilities with friends!

Not Letting Go - Tinie Tempah (ft. Jess Glynne)

"Not Letting Go" by Tinie Tempah is an excellent workout song due to its high-energy beats, motivational lyrics, and dynamic rhythm. The upbeat tempo provides a great pace for various workout routines, keeping you motivated and energised, as the fun vibe and catchy chorus will definitely turn your exercise routine into a dance party! As the lyrics go, “You makin' me stronger”, conquering Spartan may not be an easy feat, but I believe that as long as we are together with our friends, it will all be worthwhile!
