For all Eunoians, Term 2 was a busy and eventful term. Here is a look back on some of its highlights:

EuRun

After the conclusion of Spartan in Term 1, the J2s found that PE lessons swiftly became sessions of running, both on the track and in the neighbouring Bishan Park. The new J1s faced a similar experience, and they were all told that this was to prepare them for the upcoming EuRun.

EuRun is an annual Eunoian event that takes place around the beginning of Term 2. It is held either at Bishan Park or the Singapore Sports Hub, alternating across successive years.

This year, EuRun was held on April Fools’ Day, but it was hardly a joke. Wave by wave, the participants rushed the start line, eager to get a good start to their run. The >3km running route wound through the park, and as the runners made their way along it, fatigue slowly set in, but still they pushed themselves to give their all.

There was house glory at stake, too — not just for those running competitively but also for everyone else. In preparation for the event, each house had crafted their own totem poles, based on their respective house emblems.

After each house had presented their totem pole to the student body, the Street Dancers took over the stage while the judges deliberated. In the end, Ora came away as EuRun champions, with Akila a close second and Uzuri third.

College Day

Eunoia Junior College commemorated its 10th College Day with the theme “Our Voices Soar”. Taken from the final line of the College Anthem, the theme celebrated every Eunoian’s unique journey and voice.

The ceremony opened with a heartfelt video produced by EJC Media, followed by an address by the principal, Mr Andrew Tan. Mr Tan spoke about how the college’s caring community and safe environment allow Eunoians to grow into more authentic versions of themselves. He also expressed gratitude for the people, opportunities and supportive culture in Eunoia, and reminded Eunoians that everyone develops at their own pace — some may flourish earlier, while others may take more time to realise their full potential — and both approaches are equally valid.

Building on this message of charting one’s own path, Charmaine Lin (24-A4), the Eunoian of the Year, spoke about how fulfilment looks different for each person. While many of her peers found purpose in leadership roles, Charmaine expressed that she found additional meaning in serving the community. She encouraged Eunoians to, rather than constantly question whether they are “doing enough”, reflect on how they actually wish to contribute, because we all have a unique part to play in serving those around us.

And so, as Eunoia celebrates its 10th College Day, “Our Voices Soar” serves as a poignant reminder that every Eunoian has their own unique voice and journey. By cultivating a supportive and encouraging community, Eunoia empowers each individual to grow and contribute in their own way. Together, the collective voices of all Eunoians are what allow the college to soar to ever greater heights.

DDD#2 VIA

Deep Dive Days are often hailed as a mid-term break — a welcome day off from studies in the midst of hectic schedules and term tests. But on DDD#2, our J2s had their work cut out for them. For them, the day began at 8:30 am sharp, and after some setting-up work, they welcomed a sea of seniors from various Active Ageing Centres within the neighbourhood to our school.

The J2s then guided the seniors around the campus while engaging them in simple chats in English, Mandarin and even other languages. Before long, their initial unfamiliarity gave way to easy conversation, and the seniors were then escorted to the main event — visiting the interactive booths that different classes had prepared.

At the booths were a range of small interactive activities designed by the J2s. A class from Ora guided seniors through simple mobility exercises, while another from Isami shared practical tips on self-care. Each booth was carefully designed to be both enjoyable and meaningful for the elderly.

After visiting the booths, the seniors were ushered to the Auditorium for the finale segment. All five house choruses were performed, then everybody joined in on a mass karaoke session led by our very own karaoke champions. And finally, the school bade farewell to the seniors, capping off a deeply fulfilling day for all.

National School Games

The annual National School Games (NSG) brought much excitement throughout the school. With matches taking place across the entirety of Term 2, the competition allowed our student athletes to showcase their skills and represent EJ on the national stage.

Over the course of the NSG season, the participating athletes demonstrated exceptional resilience, both during training and in competitions. For the athletes, balancing such demanding commitments with their rigorous academic schedules was certainly no easy feat. Many put in countless hours of preparation, and every match demonstrated the perseverance and sportsmanship of our teams.

Beyond hard-won victories — our Softball Boys’ team emerged as champions — and bitter losses — the Floorball team suffered a cruel carbon copy of last year’s defeat — congratulations are due to all participating teams for their efforts and achievements this season. Their passion and dedication serve as inspiration for their peers, and the games themselves serve as a reminder that sport is far more than just winning; its true value lies in teamwork and personal growth.

Performing Arts Showcases

As is the case every year, all Eunoians looked forward to the performing arts showcases in the second half of Term 2. The showcases have always proved popular, and this year was no different.

In late April, the Drama and Dance societies kickstarted the season of showcases with emotionally charged performances. Notably, the dance showcase was the fruit of a collaboration between Dance and Street Dance, blending contrasting styles into a fluid and dynamic performance.

May then saw a series of performances by the school’s musical ensembles. There was a great variety of works performed, ranging from the classical masterpieces of Mozart’s day to pop hits from the 2010s. And continuing an annual tradition, the school’s Music Elective Programme students staged Euphony, a recital concert featuring a range of classical and contemporary works, and even original student compositions.

Behind each of these performances lay an immense amount of effort. The President of Dance, Erynn, shared that putting together the combined dance showcase had been an incredibly demanding three-month journey.

“While we were initially mindful of how different styles of street and contemporary dance would blend, the energy matched beautifully and the transitions between the styles were seamless,” Erynn said. “It has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the sweetest group of people.”

The same spirit of dedication resonated across all participating groups. From the rhythm of dance to the storytelling of theatre and the beauty of music, the students’ collective effort vividly brought the EJC’s culture and passion for the Arts to life, ending the term on a high note.
